Song lyrics for people with troubles
11.29.03 (9:32 am)   [edit]
Here's some lyrics for those of you having problems. They're from an old Styx song by Dennis DeYoung. You might enjoy reading them.

I guess we used to be the lucky ones
Whose fortune smiled on everyone
Stop
A voice said you best beware
Stop
Bad luck is everywhere
And sure enough the voice was right
My luck had changed overnight
Stop
Please tell me what went wrong
Stop
I can't take these ups and downs

Hard times come
And hard times go
And in between you hope and pray
The scars don't show
'Cause life is strange
And so unsure
The days you hardly make it through
You swear that there's a curse on you
And nothing seems to fit
And things won't go your way
You know you've had enough
You've got the right to say
Why me, why me

Stop
Here comes anxiety
Stop
Won't you please let me be, I need relief

Hard times come
And hard times go
In between you hope and pray
The scars don't show
'Cause life is strange
And so unsure
The days you hardly make it through
You're sure that there's a curse on you
And nothing seems to fit
And things don't go your way
You know you've had enough
You can't take another day
Where to go and what to do
You've got those bills to pay
You're really not alone you know
'Cause everybody says
Why me, why me
(Why me that's what I want to know,
you know what I mean?)

Recuperating
11.28.03 (7:52 pm)   [edit]
I guess I've finally recovered from Thanksgiving enough to type. Lot of work cooking all day and the night before. But it was worth it. Food was good. Twenty pound turkey is about gone except for one drumstick. Still have plenty of dressing and fixings, so I guess we'll cook another one tomorrow. I went shopping today. Didn't get up and go before daylight like a lot of crazy people did. Just went to Walmart for groceries. Did buy a few things for Christmas while I was there. I took a nap when I got home. That was something I don't get to do often. Tomorrow I want to get the house ready for Christmas, then I have a wedding to go to in the evening. Well, I'm done blathering for now. I'll do some reading.

Thanksgiving eve
11.26.03 (5:00 am)   [edit]
Well, day before Thanksgiving. Four days off, yeah! College boys coming home today. Kenneth is supposed to help me cook the dinner, so we'll be starting tonight. I had planned on having a pumpkin pie, an apple pie and a cake, but then Jon and Kenneth said "What, no pecan pie, no chess pie?" so now I will be making those too. There will be a dessert for each person eating dinner. Crazy! Got the floor painted in the kitchen and dining room, so that looks pretty good. Hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving. Come by and have a piece of pie!

Very little shaking going on
11.24.03 (8:14 pm)   [edit]
Not much happening. Went to work a little late 'cause I had trouble sleeping last night. Didn't miss anything. It's getting cold. Down to 22 tonight. Hope I can find my BIG coat tomorrow. Going to bed now. I'm tired.

Personal feelings about history from 40 years ago
11.22.03 (10:23 am)   [edit]
Forty years ago today, John F. Kennedy was assassinated. For most of you who will read this, it is only a piece of history. For me, it was a defining moment in my own history, but I really didn't realize it that day. I was 13 and in 8th grade. It was a school day. I headed to my math class as usual. We had a test that day, so we got right to it. After the test was over, the teacher told us that Kennedy had been shot. He said he hadn't wanted to tell us until we were done with our test, because he figured we might be too distracted to do the test. Duh! This butthead thought it was more important for us to take an 8th grade math test than to know that the president of our country had been shot. How stupid can you get? I was a quiet, sweet, geeky girl, not given to fits of anger, but I was mad. I couldn't imagine anyone being so self-centered that he withheld that information from us. That was the day that I started understanding that there are people in the world who are grown up in years, but not in understanding. So, for those of you still in school, the teacher is not always right. There is not much you can do about it when they are wrong, but understand that they are and vow not to be like them. For many years after this event, people in bars or airports or wherever would strike up conversations with strangers by asking "Where were you when you heard that Kennedy was shot?". I didn't realize how much I was still affected by it until Cris and I went to the Kennedy exhibit in Nashville. I was very interested in all the memorabilia, etc. until we got to the part about the assassination. I just didn't want to see it. I had lived through it and really didn't want to relive it. Cris was unsympathetic, so I tried to explain what affect the event had on my generation. He pointed out that for his generation, the events of 9/11/2001 is a similar experience. I will not be around to see how he feels about it in 40 years, but I bet he will have some feelings about it. Hope this hasn't been too boring for you.

Friday night as usual
11.21.03 (9:35 pm)   [edit]
CommunistCasey and Stealthkiller in the dining room playing DBZTCG. Sythe and Silverbolt on the computers, playing Furcadia and Gaia at the same time, not to mention IMing while eating pizza. Shithouse18 just left to go home because he has Saturday school, AGAIN. Dad asleep in his lounge chair. Welcome to my world! Nothing of interest to report. Work sucks. I bought another lottery ticket. I am ever hopeful. At least next week is a short week. I have to work Mon. thru Wed., but have Thurs. and Fri. off. Four day weekend. Sounds great! Going to a wedding on Sat. after Thanksgiving. Girl at work getting married, even though she has been married for a couple of years. Having a religious ceremony. Eloped last time. Looking forward to it because her family is Colombian and there will be Salsa music! Love to dance. Not any good at it, but I love it. Tune in tomorrow. On the 40th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, I will tell you youngsters where I was and what I felt. Talk to you then.

More quizzes

Okay, I like the Eurythmics, the picture of the girl on the smile looks kind of like I looked when I was young, I don't much like water, but the description fits, but who the hell is Shirley Manson?

Pork roast paradise
11.19.03 (7:18 pm)   [edit]
Not much going on today. My doctor's nurse called and said that I have high cholesterol, 250, and need to work on bringing it down with exercise and diet. If that doesn't work, then I have to take medicine. I have decided I will try to get started on the exercise, but I will wait on the diet part until after the holidays. So, I am eating pork while I can. I could live without beef, but I do love bacon and ham. I have until April 26 to bring it down naturally. Wish me luck. Getting old sucks, but it's better than the alternative.

Floor painting
11.18.03 (4:27 am)   [edit]
Not much going on. Had to work and that was boring as usual. Not much time for this because I'm painting my floors. I don't know when I'll ever have real flooring, so I'm painting the subfloor. Hard work. Have to prime it first, then put on the color, a kind of tan called "summer pecan". I'm trying to get the place prettified for Thanksgiving. By the way, any of you who live around here are welcome to come over Thanksgiving. Kenneth says he wants to help me cook, so that should be fun. Man, it is really windy here. The porch furniture is blowing around and the dog thinks there's a boogey man out there and keeps growling. Got to go to boring work now.

I'm so boring!
11.16.03 (8:28 am)   [edit]
I took some of the quizzes on Quizilla. Results to the right. I'm not sure I like the results. I come off as rather bland, which is not how I think of myself. Oh well! Gotta get ready for church. Talk to ya later.

Testosterone overload!
11.15.03 (7:59 pm)   [edit]
I just spent way too much time with CommunistCasey, Shithouse18 and StealthKiller. We started out around 3:30 on Friday afternoon driving to Lafayette for the playoff game. I was at the gas station when the bus rounded the corner and headed out. It was after 6:30 when we got there. And... the bus hadn't arrived. I had not seen it, but since they left first, I just figured I was late. I kicked the guys out of the car, telling them to find the band, then I found a parking place. When I got to the stadium, I realized the bus had not arrived and I had no idea where the trio was. I found them, but still no bus. The national anthem was played and still no bus. I finally got a call from one of the moms in a car following the bus. They were close, but confused. I steered them in the right direction and they arrived shortly afterward. It was cold, but not miserable. No wind or rain. We lost the game in the closing seconds when the other team kicked a field goal. Good game, close all the way. Rude fans on their side. Cheered when our player was hurt. I told them they shouldn't do that. They apologized, then flipped me off behind my back. I'm sure they thought I was an old fart and they could get away with anything. What they don't realize is that I put a hex on them. They'll have bad hair days for the next week. Gathered up the fearsome threesome and headed for Cookeville, a drive of about an hour and a half. Stopped at McD's and ate, then went to hotel. They had a good laugh when we pulled into the parking lot and there was a bus from MOREHEAD COLLEGE. Apparently, there was a girl's volleyball team staying there. Large women, but attractive. Went to the room, where they proceeded to watch TV and I went to my SEPARATE bedroom for the night (relief at last!). Got up the next morning, ate some bad free continental breakfast. Went to WalMart and got provisions for the college boys. I also bought a very cool jeans jacket. Then we hooked up with Jon and Ken for a quick meal at Taco Bell. Went back to the college for the game, where we got rained on a bunch. The trio got so cold, they went back to the dorm after halftime. Weenies! They missed the near-rumble between our fans and their fans. Some of their fans were sitting near the band and didn't much like the heckling that some of our band members do during games. The opponent's bench is on the side the band sits on, so some of the more vocal band members always make silly comments to the players. Example: "Number 30, you're very petite" (said to the shortest guy on the team). Apparently, the fans from (team deleted) have no sense of humor. When the small subset of the band that roams around after halftime playing in various locations went to play in front of these rabid fans, they started throwing water on the band members and one of them poked our drum major with a cane. One of our fans got so tired of it (after this guy threw a whole cup of water on the trumpeter) that he went over and put a choke hold on the guy. I was sure we were going to witness a scene from West Side Story. Things fortunately settled down somewhat, but it may have had something to do with the six TTU guys who looked like they should have been playing football who went and stood behind the other team's fans for the rest of the game. Then after the game we drove an hour and a half back home. Now, let me explain the subject and what it has to do with this story. All the way up and back I had to listen to talk about Dragonball, Ragnarok, Yugi Oh, Dungeons and Dragons, etc. It was really BORING! I love those guys, but man, can they talk trash. All of you female types, please send pity waves my way. I'm now sitting in a house with the three of them as well as Dad, Stealthzero and the college boys. Even the dog is a male. AAAAAAH!

My life is insane!
11.13.03 (4:32 am)   [edit]
Haven't blogged much lately. I'm on call for work and Tuesday I had several calls to work, so didn't have time. Last night when I sat down at my computer, a strange home page came up and then all hell broke loose. The stupid thing was the victim of a spyware assault. SpyBot found more than 1000 pieces of spyware. It took all night to get it back to almost normal. Not much to report. Going to the football game Friday night, then driving back to Cookeville to spend the night for Saturday's game. Made motel reservations. It's supposed to be in the low 30's or high 20's so we'll be freezing (I know, Ink, you've been freezing for some time now, but we've been having weather in the 70's). Last football game for TTU and probably for GCHS (sorry, I'm realistic). Doesn't hurt my feelings too much, I'm tired of the whole scene for this year. Don't know if I'll get on tonight. I have to go to the grocery store, since I'll be busy on the weekend (those boys always want to eat for some reason). See ya.

Still a working fool
11.10.03 (5:55 pm)   [edit]
Well, I didn't win the lottery, so I had to go to work today. The good news is, no one else won it either, so it's up to 70 mil now. Even with cash option and taxes, that would leave over 20 mil, so yes, Kenneth, you would be able to mooch off of us. But I would make you go to school anyway, just so you wouldn't be around the house driving me crazy. The good news is, you could drive a Porsche to school. Enough daydreaming.

Sunday night I gotta go to work tomorrow blues
11.09.03 (6:56 pm)   [edit]
Jon and Ken are getting ready to head back to school. Paul is sleeping in his chair. Bobby and Tyler just left, so it's really quiet now by comparison. Cris is trying to get in a few more minutes on the computer before he has to resume restriction for the week. I am going to go get my lottery ticket and see if I won. Maybe I can skip work tomorrow after all. lol

Tired feet!
11.07.03 (10:01 pm)   [edit]
I'm exhausted! Been standing in that stupid concession stand since about 4 this afternoon. I don't want to see another burger, or fries or hot chocolate for a long time. I smell like hamburgers. The only good thing is we won the game, 16 to 15. That means we will have to go to Macon County to play the next game. We'll probably get our butts beat there, but we made it to the second round, anyway. Not sure the band will go. We would have to leave before school is over, so we can't take a school bus and we can't afford a charter. I probably won't go anyway, because the big guys have a game on Saturday and I want to go to it. Don't know if I can handle going to Macon County on Friday night and Cookeville on Saturday. I'll have to think about that. Maybe we can just go from Macon County to Cookeville and spend the night. I'm rambling, I know. I'm so tired I can't think straight. Getting old is really a pain! But it beats the alternative. I'm going to go read some of your musings for the day.

Nothing in particular
11.07.03 (3:28 am)   [edit]
Yesterday was just another day in my life. Went to work, got caught in the rain walking back from lunch, left early to go to the doctor (just a checkup). Went to Sams afterward to get coffee supplies for the office. Picked up my first Christmas present for the guys. Wouldn't you like to know what, fellas? Also bought Matrix Reloaded. I know, the last one is in theatres already, but I haven't seen the second one yet. I don't get out much. If it hasn't been on Starz, I probably haven't seen it. Big countywide pep rally today for the playoff game tonight. I'm going to leave work early I guess. The concession stand is a mess, so I'll need to clean it up before game time. This will most likely be the last game at home for this season and I couldn't be happier. Although it is the major support of the band, football concession gets to be a drag by this time in the season. I do hope we win our game. We will be playing the team we played in the second round last year. They sort of cheated us last year by postponing the game a day. It was raining and they didn't want to play, according to them. Now, who postpones football because of rain? Nobody. The truth (as I heard it) was that one of their star players missed school that day and wouldn't have been allowed to play, so they postponed the game until Saturday, which was about as bad weatherwise as the previous day. So, I hope we beat them up tonight. Not that I will get to see any of the game, because I will be in the @&$% concession stand where I can't even see the scoreboard! The only way I know what's happening is that the band plays Rocky Top when we score. But that doesn't help me with the opponent's score. Okay, enough whining. I'll see some of you tonight.

Lookout, Mom's in the house!
11.05.03 (7:22 pm)   [edit]
For all of you who know me, this could be embarrassing  . I'm the mother of some of the people who have logs here and pretty well known by some of the others. Yes, I am from Grundy County! There isn't much to do for entertainment around here, so this exercise ranks pretty high on the fun-o-meter. Those who have read one of my sons' log will know who I am. The rest who know me in the real world will probably figure it out real fast. So, if you have anything you don't want your parents to know, better get busy erasing! Only kidding! :D I'm not here to spy on anyone. I just thought this might be fun and a way to exorcise my own demons, like boredom, frustration, etc. I'm old though, so bear with me while I figure this stuff out. I have been a computer programmer for over 30 years, so I should be able to handle it, but I'm used to working on mainframes, not in this internet realm.

Here's a little background on me, just to get you interested. I was born in 1950 (yes, I'm older than dirt), which makes it really easy to figure out my age. That [i]used[/i] to be a good thing. I'm married, sometimes happily. I have three sons, all of them freshmen somewhere. I grew up in Florida, but moved here 11 years ago to get away from the crowds down there. It's a nice place to visit. My family is from this area and I am finding that I am related to about 2/3 of the people in the county, since I have been working on my family tree lately. That is one of my hobbies. I also love music and play piano for pleasure and in church. The rest of my "free" time is usually taken up by school activities for one or the other of my sons. My life is not terribly interesting, but I have noticed in the course of reading some of your logs that I am not the only one with a boring life! So, here's my life.

I was at yet another meeting on my boring job this morning when my husband left a message saying that the school called and our youngest son was not in school. Since he had spent the previous night with a friend, this was a bit confusing. He called the school back and found out that the friend wasn't in school either. Mystery solved. Phone calls proved fruitless, since the line was always busy (internet). So, he went to the friend's house, picked up our son and took him to school. If you don't see any postings by a certain someone for a while, now you know why. Restriction city for him.

Since that's the only interesting thing about my day, I'm going to close this and see how neat I can make it look.
